Under All is the Land: NNative Sovereignty, Past, Present, Future

Mona.jpg

Under All Is the Land: Native Sovereignty, Past, Present, Future is a curated exhibition of contemporary Native American art featuring 20+ artists, conceived for NJ Garden State Art Weekend. In the year marking the 250th anniversary of the United States, it shifts the lens—away from fireworks and founding myths, toward the ground beneath them and the people living on the land before settlers arrived.

Refusing the language of “property” as destiny, the exhibition centers Indigenous understandings of land as relation, responsibility, and living presence. It stands as a counter-monument: not a celebration of conquest, but an insistence on sovereignty—past, present, and future—and a radical reimagining of who belongs, and how we belong, to the land itself.
