Sandra Charlap works in a wide variety of subjects and media, including watercolor, acrylic, glass mosaic, seed bead, and more.

Sandra's most current artwork is a study of pollution in the world's oceans. She is raising awareness of this issue by capturing the plastic "islands" as they are seen from above. Her goal is to encourage people to think more carefully about how they dispose of their plastic and other refuse.

Another recent focus has been acrylic on canvas gardens. Sandra paints fields and meadows with many different plants, as well as pieces with just one type of flower (such as daffodils or poppies).

Sandra has also enjoyed making aerial map paintings & mosaics for the past several years. After battling breast cancer as a single mother, she realized the endless possibilities available to her to go anywhere and be anything, and she began exploring that theme in her art. Her maps feature places all over the world, from the view out the airplane window above Newark Airport to the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul!

Sandra studied Illustration at Parsons School of Design and have a BFA with a minor in Printmaking from Montclair State University. Highlights from her 30+ year career include creating a mural on a large utility box outside Columbia High School, participating in residencies in France, and even making jewelry for SZA!

When she's not in the studio, she teaches art classes at libraries, senior centers & organizations such as JESPY House and the South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race.
