Doris Cacoilo, is an artist, activist, curator and educator. Cacoilo has an MFA in Integrated Media Arts from Hunter College and teaches art, media and art history at Rutgers University, and New Jersey City University. She is co-founder of _gaia an artist collective working to help support women artists and the advocacy of women's issues (since 2002). Cacoilo has developed art programs and events focused on the social, political and artistic lives of women. She has curated over 20 group exhibitions, showcasing the work of over 300 artists, helped produce the P.S.1 WACK! Open Studio Artists Tour and has organized the Wonder Women Residency program, an annual group artist residency and exhibition and is the curator of Wildflower Sculpture Park and Evening Star Studio Gallery. In her studio practice Cacoilo uses ceramic-based mixed media sculpture to explore themes of identity, family, play and childhood.
